B2B Tech Tuesday: New £45m London VC fund for early-stage tech start-ups

B2B Tech Tuesday is our weekly check-in here at Spreckley, where we share all the most interesting and useful B2B and enterprise technology news, innovations and trends.

This week, we look at the launch of a new £45 million venture capital fund from Sova VC, specifically for early-stage tech start-ups. Also, we consider a new study that claims that 5G is up to 90% more energy efficient than 4G and we look at a handy new guide to best practice for B2B tech video production.

Sova VC backs disruptive early-stage tech start-ups

UKTech reports this week on a new £45m VC fund from Sova VC for early-stage tech start-ups in the UK, Nordics, Baltic States, and the US East Coast.

“Amidst a lot of uncertainty due to the global Covid crisis, a new VC has announced its launch in the UK,” reads the report. “Sova VC, a London-based VC firm has arrived today to back disruptive early-stage (Late Seed and Series A) technology companies focussed on B2B and B2B2C marketplaces and software platforms.”

5G networks are 90% more efficient than 4G

2021 is set to be the year that 5G really hits the mainstream, with news this week from Information Age that 5G networks are up to 90% more energy efficient than 4G

Those figures are based on a recent study by Nokia and Telefónica, focused on the power consumption of the Radio Access Network (RAN) in Telefónica’s network.

“We are committed to supporting action on climate change and engender a sustainable culture throughout our entire company,” said Juan Manuel Caro, director of operational transformation at global CTIO at Telefónica.

Tommi Uitto, president of mobile networks at Nokia, commented: “Our greatest contribution to overcoming the world’s sustainability challenges is through the solutions and technology we develop and provide.

“This important study highlights how mobile operators can offset energy gains during their rollouts, helping them to be more environmentally responsible while allowing them to achieve significant cost savings.”

Expert production tips for B2B tech marketing videos

Finally this week, Forbes has published a handy guide, offering B2B tech marketers some top tips to optimise their marketing videos.

Marketing specialists, including 71% of B2B marketers, use videos to efficiently welcome, educate and engage prospects, as well as new and existing clients. Making great videos, however, takes some thought, a lot of preparation and a little creativity,” reads Forbes’ report.

The feature is a must-read for anybody involved in the production of videos in the B2B tech sphere, as it neatly breaks down the key challenges and recommended solutions for B2B tech marketers.

Perhaps the key takeaway is this: “To capture audience attention, keep videos short and engaging. Aim for a maximum of 160-320 words for one- to two-minute videos.

“A report by Vidyard found that 73% of videos in the B2B and business-to-consumer (B2C) space are two minutes or less, with a meager 2% lasting 10-20 minutes. While 68% of people will watch a full video that’s under one minute, the percentage drops as videos get longer.

“When it comes to B2B tech marketing, clear and concise is best… No medium offers clarity and brevity like video.”
