What’s been the most exciting PR campaign you’ve worked on and why?
A few years ago now, one of my clients – a small Norwegian app security company – did a project where they showed that a Tesla car could be located, unlocked and driven away just by hacking the Tesla app. As a small firm that was only just beginning to make its name beyond its native Norway, it was great to see one of their stories become a viral success, appearing in major international news outlets and giving them a level of exposure that they hadn’t seen before.
What do you enjoy the most about working at Spreckley?
We have a really good structure in place where hierarchies aren’t too rigid – everyone has the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of the client management and new business process. We’ve also got a really good balance of different personalities and backgrounds at the company, which makes for a good mix of people who work well together.
How did you hear about Spreckley and why did you want to join?
I was working at a marketing agency back in 2015 and was looking for my next move. I was figuring out what would be the best way to develop my career and after a couple of conversations with recruiters, a move into PR was suggested.
Once I came along to Spreckley for an interview, it became pretty clear that the responsibilities matched the kind of things I wanted to do, so once the job offer came I was more than happy to accept!
If you weren’t in PR, what would you be doing instead?
In an ideal world, I’d be out on the Old Trafford pitch, curling in worldies for Manchester United on a weekly basis. Either that or travelling the globe scoring match-winning Test centuries for the England cricket team.
Given my age and general lack of sporting ability, those two options are quite unlikely unfortunately. Instead, I’d probably be a writer of some description. I’ve always been interested in psychology too, so in another life I might have gone down that path.
Tell us one thing about you that surprises people?
I know every capital city of every country in the world, and US state capitals as well. This is purely down to me having too much time on my hands at university, combined with my love for quizzes.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Flight would be decent. As would some kind of muscle memory power where I could learn to do basically anything just by watching someone else do it. Then that career as a professional footballer might not be so unrealistic after all…
Who inspires you?
An oft-chosen example, but I’d say my parents. From modest beginnings, they did well through hard work and commitment and gave myself and my brother as secure an upbringing as anyone could ask for. They’re the most selfless people I know.
I’m also inspired by US senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. Aside from his political standpoints, I’m inspired by his integrity and his unwavering commitment to his beliefs. Very rare qualities in any person, never mind a politician!
What do you collect, and why?
Running shoes. I own about eight pairs in a variety of garish colours. About half of them are completely worn out now but they’ve got sentimental value and I can’t bring myself to throw them out.
