Meet the Team: Kornelija Bilskyte

What do you enjoy the most about working at Spreckley?

I like the variety of clients that I get to work with every day, which keeps work engaging. Every day feels different and presents new challenges to overcome, and it’s allowed me to learn and expand my knowledge across a lot of different industries – all through the lens of tech.

I also love the team here – everyone has been supportive and collaborative, as well as just fun to be around.

How did you hear about Spreckley and why did you want to join?

I actually first heard about Spreckley directly from the source – my friend, Stela Schroeder, who joined the company a few years ago and still works here to this day.

When I looked into the agency more thoroughly, it seemed like a great tech PR agency for someone working in PR, and it offers good positions for junior roles. It’s allowed me to start my career and has already helped build the foundation for a, hopefully long, career in B2B public relations.

What’s been the most exciting PR campaign you’ve worked on and why?

Six months have flown by, but it has given me a range of campaigns to get to grips within that short period of time. Our recent work with the platform launch of physical security company Antare helped me get a crash course in all aspects of the job and took a tremendous amount of effort across the whole team.

It involved two full months of preparation and delivery, all while I was still getting to grips with the job. Along the way, there were lots of challenges, including balancing client expectations with ambitious pitching goals. It was a very hands-on experience from start to finish, and I feel like we worked very well as a team.

In the end, the client was super happy with the results we delivered, and it turned out to be a great entry campaign. It leaves me very glad to keep going and take on more exciting projects.

What was your first job?

My very first job was actually selling fireworks during the holiday season. Even though I was still in school at the time, I was still working every day for three weeks straight! Looking back, I guess it gave me a great introduction to pitching and selling from a young age, and it definitely required a lot of flare.

If you weren’t in PR, what would you be doing instead?

If I weren’t working in PR, I think I’d probably be doing something in the creative or entertainment fields. I have a deep love for film and music, so something following those passions from that creative perspective sounds likely.

Tell us one thing about you that surprises people?

One thing about me that always seems to surprise people is the sheer scale of my concert-going habits. I’ve been to over 100 – just the ones I can count.

At least 30 of those live shows were just for Harry Styles – including 15 times for this year alone. I can’t really explain why I went so many times – I just had to go back, again and again. Another 30 were for Niall Horan…in fact, I think about 70% of my total shows were just One Direction related, although never as a group!

What’s your favourite thing to do outside of work?

See the above. My absolute favourite thing is to go to gigs. If it’s not live music, I also love going to the movies. I have a cinema membership and will watch everything and anything. My local Odeon employees must know me well by now.

I also love spending time with my friends. We love to go on walks together and can easily spend hours wandering through posh areas in London looking into people’s windows.

Who had the most influence on you growing up?

To be earnest, my grandparents. They played a big part in my upbringing.

It might be the obvious answer, but the people who had the most influence on me growing up were my parents. They always encouraged me to work hard, be independent and follow my dreams and passions. They were fully supportive of my move to London, and they have consistently been supportive of everything I do.

When it comes to certain things – like my taste in music – my dad would probably prefer if he didn’t have to deal with it.

What’s your go-to lunch on Leather Lane?

This might be controversial by Spreckley standards. When it comes to lunch, the reality is that I bring in my own most days. I’ve actually only had one lunch from Ptooch – courtesy of Stela – and it was just alright.

Stela will always sing its praises, but I think it’s overrated and has nothing on my gourmet, homemade tuna salads.

What’s something you want to do in the next year that you’ve never done before?

Looking ahead, something I’ve always wanted to do but never done before is travel to Australia. I have a cousin I still need to visit there, so that would be a great goal to have. I’m also looking forward to having more time, and hopefully money, to travel in general.

On top of that, I would absolutely love to go to Glastonbury – I still have never been, despite all the concerts I have attended in my life.
